There’s something truly special about photographing a maternity session in Lavenham. Recently, I had the joy of photographing Jessica and her husband James (yes, guys you are welcome too) in the stunning St Peter & St Pauls church and around Lavenham’s iconic market town square — and the results were nothing short of magical.

I knew this session would be filled with warmth. Jessica radiated that unmistakable glow, and Lavenham provided the perfect backdrop to honour her journey.
We began inside the church — a place filled with stillness, soft light, and a sense of calm that instantly put her at ease. The gentle atmosphere made every moment feel intimate and meaningful. The addtion of the incredible dress by @propsand drops made the whole experience truly ethereal.
Stepping outside later into the market square, we were greeted by Lavenham’s famous timber‑framed buildings, cobbled corners, and the timeless character that makes this village so beloved. It was the ideal blend of serenity and storybook charm.
Styling the Session: Gowns, Props & Creative Touches
One of my favourite parts of maternity photography is helping mums‑to‑be feel beautiful, confident, and celebrated. For this session, we chose a flowing gown by @propsanddrops that moved gracefully with every movement and complemented both the church’s warm tones and elegance of such a venue.
The soft fabric and beautiful blue colour of the gown, created such dreamy silhouettes and gave us that ethereal look I always hope to capture.
From Sacred Calm to Village Charm: The Session Experience
We began inside the church, where the quiet atmosphere allowed for gentle, reflective moments. The soft light filtering through the windows wrapping Jessica in a warm glow, highlighting the beauty of her bump and the emotion of this stage in her journey. And of course husband and daddy to bump was encouraged to join in on the fun, how cute do they look.
After capturing those peaceful portraits, we wandered outside the church to capture more stunning images as the light was on point! Once we felt we had captured the true essence of the church Jessica changed into her normal relaxed ''modern'' clothes and we headed into the heart of Lavenham. The market square offered a completely different energy — textured, and full of character. I guided her through natural poses, encouraging movement and connection. The contrast between the serene church interior and the vibrant village streets created a beautifully balanced gallery of images.

Lavenham is a dream when it comes to natural light. Inside the church, the light was soft and diffused, creating a timeless, almost painterly feel. Outdoors, the early morning light wrapped the village in bright happy tones that made Jessica and her bump stand out beautifully.
